Tiger Brands, the South Africa-based consumer goods group, has appointed Mondelez International executive Lawrence MacDougall as the company’s new CEO.

Macdougall, the president of Mondelez’s operations across eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will succeed Peter Matlare. Tiger Brands announced in September Matlare would leave the business by the end of 2015.

Tiger Brands said today (9 March) the date Macdougall will start at the group will be announced by the end of this month.

MacDougall said he was “excited and energised” about joining Tiger Brands. “The strength of our brands offers us a distinct competitive advantage that can be leveraged to create value for all stakeholders,” he said.

Tiger Brands chairman Andre Parker added: “We have found an exceptional new CEO in Lawrence, who has sound commercial and strategic acumen, the demonstrated ability to lead extensive growth and business turnaround strategies and the leadership skills to develop strong integrated teams that deliver continuous sustainable performance.”
