General Mills has outlined plans to shut two more plants – with a factory in the US and a site in Canada set for closure.
The US food group said it had made a “preliminary decision” to shut a refrigerated baked goods facility in New Albany in Indiana, a move that would affect around 400 staff.
It also announced plans to close a similar plant in Midland in the Canadian province of Ontario. The move will hit around 100 employees, General Mills said.
Both sites are expected to shut by the middle of 2016. The plan to close the US plant remains subject to union negotiations.
General Mills has seen sales come under pressure in recent quarters and is looking to streamline its operations. In September, it said it would close two facilities in the US, with the loss of around 570 jobs. A month later, the Cheerios maker announced plans to cut a further 700 to 800 posts, primarily in the US.
Just before Christmas, the company reported a fall in half-year profits as sales continued to slide.
