PepsiCo is to take its UK crisp brand Walkers Sensations into the country’s nut category.

The US food and drink giant will launch four flavoured nut lines, including Chinese Szechuan Pepper and Californian Honey and Salt, next month.

PepsiCo cited Nielsen data for the year to 22 October that it said showed snacking nuts sales were up 9% in the UK. The growth, it claimed, had been “driven by the success of flavoured nuts”.

Sensations nuts business manager Pete Skipwith said the brand would “drive the next wave of growth” in the category.

“Sensations invented mainstream premium sharing crisps in 2002 and we’re aiming to deliver a similar transformation in nuts,” he said.

The range, which also consists of Mexican Smoked Chilli and Tuscan Sun Ripened Tomato and Basil lines, will go on sale as coated and oven-roasted peanuts on 15 April. The nuts have an RSP of GBP1.99 (US$3.18).
