US privately-owned food group Rich Products Corp. has acquired Canadian frozen dessert and ice cream maker Dorgel and Elistan Foods.

Dorgel and Elistan sell Dorgel-branded frozen desserts to retailers across Canada. The acquisition includes Dorgel and Elistan’s entire product portfolio, manufacturing operations as well as research and development capabilities.

“We’re confident that their products will superbly complement our existing line. Their excellent reputation and established distribution network will pave the way for Rich’s growth in Canada’s frozen dessert category,” Aldo Belvedere, president of Rich’s Canadian division, said yesterday (26 March).

Belvedere added the deal marked an “important entry” for Rich’s into the “branded retail marketplace in Canada”. 

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
