Researchers at the Allergy Clinic in Landquart, Switzerland, have discovered that bog rhubarb is as effective as antihistamines for relieving hay fever, without inducing drowsiness.
A total of 125 hay-fever sufferers took part in the study, and were given tablets containing either an extract of bog rhubarb or cetirizine, a commonly prescribed drug, for two weeks. Researchers found that the herbal tablets are as effective as cetirizine at relieving the symptoms of hay fever; sneezing, blocked noses and runny eyes.
