US meat processor Tyson Foods has said it has reduced beef production at some of its US plants this week due to tight supplies of market-ready cattle, lower beef sales and reduced exports.

The company said one beef plant was closed on Tuesday, while five were closed on Monday and others were operating at reduced capacity, reported Reuters.


Tyson, which is the largest US beef producer, operates ten beef plants in the US.


The US beef industry has been suffering since December when several major foreign buyers halted imports of US beef due to the discovery of a single case of BSE in Washington state.
