US doughnut maker and retailer Krispy Kreme has said it has opened its first outlet in Washington, DC.
The new Krispy Kreme store, located in Dupont Circle, will be the third Krispy Kreme store in the DC Metropolitan area and the first within the District lines.
Krispy Kreme, which operates more than 390 stores in 45 US states, Australia, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom, recently announced the departure of its chief operating officer, John Tate.
In what has been a difficult year for the company so far, Krispy Kreme reported a first-quarter net loss as its operations were hit by the popularity of low-carbohydrate diets. Then at the end of July Krispy Kreme said that the US Securities and Exchange Commission was conducting an informal, non-public inquiry regarding the company’s franchise reacquisitions and its previously announced reduction in earnings guidance.
