Dutch chicken wholesalers have increased their orders for German chickens, leading to a 10% rise in wholesale chicken prices in Germany, according to food trade association BVL.
Annual chicken consumption in Germany currently stands at 1.4 million tonnes, of which 40% is locally produced. Prior to the bird flu outbreak, Germany was importing 400,000 tonnes of chicken from the Netherlands, reported the German News Digest.
