Union representatives and Parmalat bosses from around Europe are to meet the Italian group’s executives this week, reported Reuters.


“There are 450 jobs at risk in Hungary. The plant is facing collapse and liquidation,” Antonio Mattioli, head of the Parma branch of CGIL-Flai agriculture union, told Reuters. He added that the unions would ask Parmalat to help its Hungarian operation.


Mattioli also said that the unions and managers would voice their opposition to any plan to split up Parmalat’s Italian unit and would also call for the core milk, yoghurt and fruit juice operations to be kept together.
