JAPAN: Yoshinoya halts gyudon sales on US beef ban

Leading Japanese fastfood chain, Yoshinoya, will stop serving the popular gyudon rice bowls, which are topped with beef, as the government’s ban on US beef hits home.
Yoshinoya will halt the sales at 970 of its nearly 1,000 outlets, the company said. It follows the actions of Nakau and Zensho, its competitors, which are also struggling with a reduced beef inventory, reported Kyodo News.
The government imposed the import ban in December when it emerged that the US had discovered its first case of BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy).
