Researchers studied grains processed under patented (and trademarked)‘Activated Barley’ system, that uses temperature, pressure and humidity to bring organic grains to where they are about to sprout. At this point, soluble fibre beta glucans are most present, and they can reduce cholesterol levels, cutting the risk of coronary and vascular problems.

In a 12-week trial, Uppsala scientists used mix-to-drink supplement Activ, made in Sweden by US-owned Nutritec, which patented the activated barley system.
