Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn has announced that it is to begin offering all fresh organic fruit and vegetables in biodegradable packaging.

Dick Boer, general manager of Albert Heijn, said the move was in response to consumer demand for healthiness and sustainability.


Albert Heijn, part of Dutch retail giant Ahold, has been using biodegradable packaging for a number of its fresh organic fruit and vegetable products for the last three years; however, starting this month, the packaging of all 22 types of fresh organic fruit and vegetables will be changed to biodegradable wrapping.
