French retailer Groupe Carrefour has reportedly entered talks with Indian business group Wadias for a retail venture in the country.
Carrefour has been surveying the Indian market for over four months, according to a report in India’s Financial Express.
Local reports said the talks were at an advanced stage, but Carrefour refused to comment on the matter when contacted by just-food today (20 December).
The speculation quickly follows Wal-Mart’s headway into India through an understanding with Bharti Enterprises, announced on 27 November.
Back in September, Indian reports circulated that Carrefour had signed an agreement with UAE’s Landmark Group to open a hypermarket in India.
