The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) will stage a public meeting to discuss a petition to establish a definition for the voluntary claim “natural”.

Parties will gather comments on conditions under which the claim should be used on the labels of meat and poultry products.

The public meeting will be held on Tuesday 12 December from 9am to 1 pm at the USDA, Washington.

The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is also considering the development of a voluntary standard to address production practices associated with the term “naturally raised” for livestock, with three listening sessions on 11 December.
