UK based food certification body EFSIS has announced the start of inspections from its new Bangkok office under new general manager of Asia Pacific Pirapol Klipbua.

“We’ve got just the right man in Pirapol,” says Paul Ruocco, marketing and international operations director. “He knows the food sector and he is a specialist in marketing and business development. That’s just what we want to build on our already successful operations in the Asia Pacific region.”
The EFSIS office in Bangkok has been set up under a strategic alliance with Thailand’s National Food Institute. “We have a team of inspectors in place who are already doing an excellent job,” says Paul Ruocco. “EFSIS already has a wide range of work with businesses all over the region, including in Thailand, China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Pirapol will work closely with government agencies, retailers and other specifiers to make sure the EFSIS service is closely tailored to local needs.”
“The wide range of standards to which we can work means we can offer a complete third party audit to food businesses in the region,” he says. EFSIS carries out inspections under the BRC Global Standard, which is already widely used in the region and the International Food Standard, which is likely to become important. In addition, EFSIS is inspecting under the EUREPGAP standard as well as its own ‘Safe and Legal’ standard and Tesco’s Nature’s Choice.
“TOPS, the big Thai supermarket chain, is doing workshops with its suppliers on ‘Safe and Legal,’” says Paul Ruocco. “Our work with them is an excellent example of the close working relationships Pirapol will be building throughout the food chain in the Asia Pacific region.”
