Turkish food group Ülker has said it is aiming to increase its share of the EUR1.3bn (US$1.65bn) European soup market.

Speaking at a press conference at the company’s plant in Cesme, Ülker Food Group chairman Mehmet Tütüncü said: “Europeans love Turkish flavour. In Europe 80% of all soup consumption is based on instant soup. Our goal is to increase our share in the European market.”

The company currently exports 10% of its soup production to some 27 countries.

The company also believes there is room for growth in Turkey’s already substantial domestic soup market.  Ülker forecasted that the instant soup market in Turkey would increase by around 15% by 2010.
