The new appointment has been made following Guy Russo’s promotion to international relationship partner, Greater China. Guy will relocate to Hong Kong to oversee more than 1,200 restaurants in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
McDonald’s Australia chairman Bob Mansfield said he had mixed emotions about Guy leaving the Australian business. “I have seen him grow and develop into an outstanding and inspirational leader and his ever present natural enthusiasm will be missed by all of us,” Mansfield said.
“Guy joined the business as a 15 year old crew person and worked his way through the system where he was appointed CEO at the age of 39. Guy was responsible for A$2bn (US$1.5bn) in sales, 730 restaurants, 300 franchisees and 56,000 employees. His role also included the Pacific region including New Caledonia, Fiji, American Samoa, Western Samoa and Tahiti and more recently New Zealand.”
“Peter has only been with the system for a comparatively short time however he has made a significant contribution to the success of the business,” he said. “Under Guy’s leadership Peter has been intimately involved in leading the revitalisation of McDonald’s Australia and his commitment, dedication and passion to the business has been infectious and I look forward to working with Peter in his new role.”
