Its environment, public health and food safety committee has proposed scrapping an insistence that all health claims are made following profiles of their nutrients previously created by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).


Some MEPs said this could unfairly classify some foods as “bad”, which pose no health risk if consumed moderately. MEPs also suggested regulators should have the responsibility for banning health food products with misleading labels, rather than manufacturers securing prior approval for their claims.
