The American government has informed the World Trade Organisation (WTO) of new regulations setting maximum residues allowed on particular foodstuffs for certain pesticides.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has announced residues for Buprofezin, for instance avocado, papaya and other fruits at 0.30 parts per million (ppm), meat and kidney at 0.05 ppm, lettuce head at 5.0 ppm, and lettuce leaf at 13.0 ppm. It has also announced a residue limit for pesticide Flumioxazin on strawberries of 0.10ppm.
National governments automatically inform the WTO of any such regulations, so that other member countries can complain if they consider they break world trade rules.
