Spain-based snacks maker Grupo Apex has announced the acquisition of Barcelona-based peer, Tot Snack.

The snack giant said it “continues to expand its infrastructure and presence” in the region, by purchasing 100% of the shares of Tot Snack, a company located near Barcelona.

With this step, Apex has added one more facility to its network, taking the count to 11.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Just Food contacted the company for further details.

“This acquisition will further increase [Grupo Apex’s] production capacity to continue with its growth plans in all markets, in addition to further diversifying [its portfolio],” the company said in a statement.

Grupo Apex called the move an “operation that adds to the strategy of ‘growth without excuses’”. According to the company, this strategy has led it to “double its figures every four years, leading the growth and value generation of the sector”.

Tot Snack, founded in 1997, is a manufacturer and seller of savoury snacks. The company has manufacturing and packaging facilities. It sells its products through “all” sales channels including on-trade, “traditional food and large-scale distribution”. Its main geographical markets are Catalunya, Andorra and the south of France.

The company’s portfolio includes snack brands such as Bestial, Brutal and Mortal. Tot Snack said in a statement it achieved “sales of more than €4m ($4.3m) in 2023”.

Ribaforada-headquartered Grupo Apex says its turnover “exceeds” €150m per year. According to the company, it has more than 600 employees.

The group’s portfolio includes brands such as Aspitos, Jumpers and Popitas. It sells its products in “more than 20 countries” through “all commercial channels”.

In November, the company acquired a new plant in the La Rioja region of the country. It said it plans to reopen a former Patatas Lahera factory, which is located in the town of Alesón.

In June, Grupo Apex snapped up local crisp maker Santo Reino for an undisclosed sum.
