Safeway, Alaska’s largest grocery chain, has initiated a project to revamp its Anchorage stores. Safeway plans to overhaul its Carrs and Safeway stores at all 28 locations, while a replacement store will be built at a site in South Anchorage.

“We’re going to touch virtually every store in Alaska in the next two to three years,” district manager Glenn Peterson told the Alaska Journal of Commerce. Building work is scheduled to get underway by spring this year, with the replacement store due to open doors before the holidays.


The group has invited tenders to renovate the Carrs store in North Pole, with construction due to be completed by mid-summer.
