The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) has voiced criticism of national dairy policies during the US Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Oversight Hearing, saying most federal dairy policies date back to the 1930s and 1940s.

The Washington-based association said that current dairy programmes are preventing dairy producers and processors from taking full advantage of new opportunities in the US and abroad.


“Regrettably, our nation’s dairy laws are stuck in a bygone era and are damaging to trade, distorting to markets, divisive regionally and ultimately failing producers, processors and consumers,” said Chip Kunde, IDFA senior vice president. “Dairy processors want to work hand in hand with congress and the administration to write a new Farm Bill that passes the test of common sense and fiscal discipline as it relates to updating our dairy policies.”
