The plan will establish an evaluation system and quick response network and improve local rules and regulations covering the way food is handled and prepared, officials from the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration said.

“According to our investigation, local people’s biggest concern about daily food is pork,” said Wang Longxing, director of the administration. “We will tighten the supervision and inspection of every process of pork delivery and consumption to protect local residents.”

The administration will also focus its supervision on cafeterias of schools, companies and construction sites to prevent mass food poisonings.

“The 295 cafeterias that cook meals especially for migrant workers will be under our strict administration this year,” Wang said. “The poor management and working environment in these cafeterias can easily lead to accidents.”
