US fastfood giant McDonald’s has said it has served over one billion customers and sold more than 132 million Big Macs in Russia since it opened its first restaurant there 15 years ago.

The company opened its first Russian outlet in Pushkin Square in Moscow in January 1990 and now has 127 restaurants in 37 Russian cities, employing more than 17,000 people. The Pushkin Square restaurant served over 30,000 customers on its opening day and still remains the busiest McDonald’s restaurant in the world, having served over 100 million customers.


Khamzat Khasbulatov, president of McDonald’s in Russia, said the company looked forward to expanding its operations in the future.
