The Bulgarian-Greek dairy joint venture Tribul is facing opposition from 24 dairy producers in the Bulgarian regions of Sliven and Yambol, who claim that a new dairy factory would bring prohibitive competition to their businesses.

The producers have requested that Sliven’s municipal authorities refuse to allow the sale to Tribul of land that could be used to build a factory.


A local consultant for Tribul, which was established by Greek company Tiras, insisted however that the proposed 15m levs (US$6.9m) factory would boost demand for milk through its exports to the EU, and thus bring new jobs.
