Japan has lifted its ban on poultry imports from China that was imposed following the discovery of a strain of bird flu in imported duck meat in May.

Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said it had decided to lift the ban on chicken, duck and other types of fowl because there have been no new cases of bird flu reported in China for more than 90 days, reported Kyodo News.
Earlier this month, Japanese poultry hygiene experts inspected farms in China’s Shandong Province, where some exports to Japan are sourced, to check up on China’s hygiene practices.
Japan imports more than 250,000 tons of poultry meat from China each year, accounting for 40% of the country’s total poultry meat imports.
