French retail giant Carrefour has denied rumours that it is planning to withdraw from its operations in Mexico as part of a plan to divest non-strategic assets around the world.

“These are just rumours,” Christiane Lecat, spokeswoman for Carrefour Mexico, was quoted by Dow Jones as saying. Carrefour Mexico operates 29 outlets, mainly situated in metropolitan Mexico City.


Carrefour said it was still evaluating its options in several countries, especially in light of the recent management shake-up, reported Dow Jones International News. Carrefour confirmed this week that its president, CEO and director, Daniel Bernard, is to resign after 13 years as head of the company.
