It is expected that Morrisons will appoint a new chief executive to replace Bob Scott before the company’s AGM on Thursday (25 May) and, with the deadline drawing closer, the battle for the position is reportedly intensifying.


 


“No formal timetable has been set for the appointment,” a spokesperson for the company told just-food this morning.


 


Citing a source close to the situation, The Mail on Sunday reported that Marc Bolland, COO of Heineken, and Ian Meakins, chief executive of Alliance UniChem, are the favourites trailed by former Tesco executive David Wild. However, Morrisons refused to confirm who was in the running for the appointment.

It is also rumoured that a timetable for long-standing chairman Sir Ken Morrison’s adoption of a less active role will be announced at the annual meeting, but Morrisons, who have remained tight-lipped throughout this turbulent period, has been characteristically reticent. “The company does not comment on speculation,” a representative of the retailer said. “As far as I am aware there are no imminent plans for Sir Ken Morrison to stand down.”
