US frozen seafood producer Gorton’s has announced that it has reformulated its entire product line to remove trans fatty acids, or trans fats.

Gorton’s said it began the transition last year to remove trans fats from all 56 products amid increasing health concerns about the fats, which are believed to be more harmful than saturated fats.

“Gorton’s saw an increasing number of consumers concerned about trans fat in their foods and wanted to address it right away. Testing reveals there is no taste, texture or visual differences between the newly formulated Gorton’s products,” the company said.

Gorton’s described the move as “a huge undertaking” which involved months of research, changes in the company’s plant and equipment, and a significant investment.
