The Polish confectionery group Wawel SA has posted net profit of PLN6.34m (US$2.1m) for the first quarter of 2006, up 58% from PLN4.02m in 2005.
Operating profit also rose sharply, from PLN4.24m to PLN7.61m, while sales reached PLN60.24m, against PLN52.11m in the first quarter of last year.
In 2005, Wawel, which is a listed company, generated a net profit for the year of PLN22.97m, on sales of PLN217.62m.
