Arla Foods said today (26 April) that it has succeeded in getting its goods returned to the shelves of between 7,000 and 8,000 stores in the Middle East.

Middle Eastern sales of the dairy cooperative plummeted when about 20 Muslim countries boycotted Danish goods due to cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed that were printed in a Danish newspaper.


Three months later, following various strategies designed to win back Middle Eastern customers, Arla is now able to report that the number of stores stocking Arla’s goods are increasing by about 350 each day.


Before the boycott, Arla sold goods to about 50,000 shops throughout the Middle East, an Arla spokesperson told just-food. The dairy company hopes to win back as much as half its former custom in 2006.
