Japan’s Agriculture Ministry said that tests on duck products from China had discovered the presence of the H5N1 bird flu virus, reported Reuters.

The ministry has imposed the import ban in order to prevent the virus from entering Japan.

China is one of the top broiler exporters to Japan. A similar ban in 2001, lasting two months, strained trade relations between the two countries.
