A natural tomato lycopene has been classified as a food colorant in the United States.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval allows Israeli company LycoRed to market its natural lycopene as a natural colorant for foods and beverages.

Derived from tomato lycopene, a powerful antioxidant said to provide health benefits, Tomat-O-Red is produced from a proprietary variety of non-GMO, lycopene-rich tomatoes and is ready-to-use and highly stable under a wide range of temperatures.

The colorant can be used in a variety of food and beverage products, and sales have shown strong growth in Japan, which granted similar approval some years ago.
