The regulations governing the importation of poultry to the US have been amended, with Argentina added to the list of regions deemed free of exotic Newcastle disease, the Federal & News Dispatch revealed today (30 January).

The revisions have been made following a risk evaluation carried out by the National Centre for Import and Export. “We have conducted a risk evaluation and have determined that Argentina has met our requirements for being recognized as free of this disease,” said the NCIE. “This action eliminates certain restrictions on the importation into the United States of poultry and poultry products from Argentina.”
Although the country has been declared free of exotic Newcastle disease, Argentina has been added to the list of regions that must provide additional certification to prove that poultry or poultry products originates from a ‘safe’ region and that they have not come into contact with poultry from outside the region, which may present a risk of contamination, before being imported into the US.
