Griffiths Family Foods (GFF) and French cooperative Eureden have launched a joint venture to boost their value-added egg product sales in the UK.

The partnership sees GFF link up with Eureden’s egg unit, Eureden Oeuf, to form the equally owned E&G Sales Co. The new entity will be headquartered at family-run GFF’s base in Shropshire, England.

Egg supplier GFF has recently opened a new manufacturing facility at its Shropshire location to produce liquid egg products and ready-to-eat items such as omelettes, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, and egg bites, a spokesperson for the UK business confirmed.

Those products, along with Eureden Oeuf’s value-added offering, will be sold through E&G Sales Co. starting on 1 October.

“Both companies will continue to produce their own products in their own factories. Both parties will bring together their expertise (Eureden – R&D, NPD, marketing and large product portfolio), and Griffiths’ (strong UK-based knowledge, Lion egg producer) contacts and products to the JV and the JV will market and sell their products,” the spokesperson told Just Food.

The venture will target quick-service restaurants, foodservice providers, and wholesalers, and will recruit a UK-based commercial director to manage the E&G Sales’ combined portfolio, the spokesperson added.

In a joint statement, Eureden said the collaboration is part of its “ongoing strategy to expand its international presence in the egg sector”. For GFF, it “marks a significant step into the value-added segment, broadening its capabilities beyond traditional egg production”.

With a 70-year history in family farming, GFF packs up to one billion eggs under the Oaklands Farm Eggs business. The company said in the statement it acquired Framptons’ egg division in 2024, expanding its capabilities to liquid egg and ready-to-eat products.

Elwyn Griffiths, managing director of Griffiths Family Foods, said: “Our businesses are closely aligned, ranging from in-depth knowledge of the sector to a strong commitment to quality and sustainability.

“Eureden’s influence in Europe, combined with our strength in the UK market, puts us in an ideal position to grow together and better serve our customers.”

The Breton cooperative, which represents 17,000 farmers and 8,000 employees, processes over 1.6 billion eggs annually through its egg division. The division employs 600 people and generates a turnover exceeding €300m ($342.8m), and exports 15% of its sales to over 40 countries, according to the statement.

Eureden Oeuf supplies free range and barn-raised eggs. Its value-added products feature omelettes, scrambled eggs and egg bites produced at four sites in France and one in Germany (Ovofit).

Rodolphe Millet, director of Eureden’s egg division, said: “The creation of this joint venture with Griffiths is an opportunity for us to mutually strengthen our position in the UK market for processed egg products.”
