The potatoes’ producer, Naturally Best, claims that the new potatoes can have up to 38% less carbohydrate and 56% fewer claories.


The Vivaldi potato, which will be available in Sainsbury’s supermarkets, is the culmination of nine years of research, scientists from Naturally Best said. The ‘healthier’ potatoes will be sold in Sainsbury’s ‘taste the difference’ premium range.


Originally developed for its creamy texture, a Vivaldi spud has normal levels of vitamin C and other nutrients.
