An exclusion zone has been set up in a 1km radius around the farm near the German town of Viersen and the slaughter of the farm’s 32,000 chickens has been ordered.

Germany had so far remained unaffected by the outbreak of bird flu in the Netherlands which later spread to Belgium. Although some birds had been slaughtered in Germany as a precautionary measure, this is the first suspected case of bird flu in the country. A preliminary test for the disease was positive, although final results will not be available until next week, reported Dow Jones News.
