UK retailer Sainsbury’s has appointed Stephen Nelson as trading director of Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd and member of the board.

Nelson will oversee all aspects of the supermarket chain’s trading functions, leading and coordinating five departments. In addition to fresh and convenient food, ambient food, drink and general merchandise he will also be responsible for quality, innovation, and procurement.

Nelson joins the company at the beginning of July from drinks conglomerate Diageo, where he has been since 1996 and is currently president (North America) South West.
