Spain-based the Fini Company has bought German confectionery and sweets business Tri D’Aix for an undisclosed sum.

“Tri D’Aix operates primarily as a sales and distribution business, with an established local presence in Germany,” Fini Company confirmed with Just Food via a spokesperson.

The privately-owned Spanish group added that it “sees this acquisition as a way to strengthen Tri D’Aix and support its continued growth”.

The deal includes Alsdorf-based Tri D’Aix’s business and assets, although the spokesperson did not clarify what facilities the German company owns.

In a statement announcing the transaction, the Molina de Segura-based company said the agreement comes after more than 30 years of “close collaboration” between the two businesses, including distribution and sales.

“Tri D’Aix brings strong local market knowledge, long-standing customer relationships and commercial expertise in its core markets,” the spokesperson said. “The focus is on building on these strengths in a complementary way.”

Family-owned Tri D’Aix was founded in 1991 and is located near the borders of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The company employs about 40 people and exports to around 20 European countries, distributing what it described in the statement as “one of the widest” product selections in the confectionery market.

Fini Company said it aims to “support Tri D’Aix in expanding its commercial reach, strengthening its leadership in its core market, and exploring new growth opportunities in international markets where the company already has a presence”.

Following the deal, Tri D’Aix will retain its management and organisational set-up and continue to work with existing customers and partners.

The spokesperson declined to provide sales figures for either company but said: “Both have solid, sustainable operations in their respective markets.”

The group, which sells products under the Fini and Dr. Good brands, has branches in Latin American countries including Brazil, Chile and Peru. In Europe, it does business in France, Portugal and Italy.
