The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and High Liner Foods Inc. are warning the public not to consume High Liner brand Fish Sticks 700g (28 sticks per box) as this product may be contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin.

The High Liner Brand Fish Sticks are sold in a 700g box containing 28 sticks per box bearing a UPC  0 61763 02316 3. Only product identified with the date code 2042U6 is affected by the recall. The date code is printed in white letters and is located on the English cooking instruction side panel.


The Nova Scotia-based manufacturer is voluntarily recalling the affected product.  This product has been distributed nationally.


Food contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin may not look or smell spoiled. The toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures.  Common symptoms of Staphylococcus intoxication are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. In severe cases, headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may occur.


There have been three reported illnesses linked to the consumption of one package of this product in Ontario. The CFIA is continuing with the investigation and is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall. Consumers should return this affected product containing the date code 2042U6 to their local retail store for full refund.
