The brands in question are Banania (chocolate powder), Benco (chocolate granules), Yabon (cream desserts) and Poti (purees).

Unilever inherited the brands when it acquired US group, Bestfoods, in 2000.

Created at the start of the last century, Banania, along with Benco, has an 18% share of France’s chocolate powder market, behind Nesquik (Nestlé) and Poulain (Cadbury) and is valued at €178m (US$201.9m).

Nutrial’s aim is to build up a group with strong brands in the breakfast, snacks and small desserts segments based on this first acquisition, the company said.
