The laws are changing to make it necessary for the manufacturer, production unit and the importer to provide contact details on the packaged/bottled food labels. In the case of products manufactured outside of India, a country of origin is also required.


As it stands, the rules provided by the Prevention of Adulteration of Food (PFA) only require the registered address of the manufacturer, but now officials are hoping that these measures will facilitate dealing with food safety issues and consumer problems.
