The ministry of fisheries has approved a plan to build a seafood processing plant in the Tan Tao Industrial Zone of Ho Chi Minh City. The city has the largest demand for seafood produce throughout the entire of Vietnam, consuming 160 tonnes daily, and 200,000 tonnes every year.

The city also annually produces over 25,000 tonnes for export within 46 of the 200 processing plants already established in the area, and it is these export-focused plants that the city plans to concentrate on upgrading before 2005.

The new plant will be built at a cost of VNÐ81.3bn, and be capable of producing around 8,500 tonnes of seafood produce annually for export and domestic use.
