Troubled supermarket giant Coles Myer announced yesterday that it is to close down its pilot Let’s Eat outlet, abandoning its new food retailing venture after just eighteen months.

Based in Melbourne, Let’s Eat was an amalgamation of food retail options; incorporating a sushi bar, a sandwich bar, a wine bar and an upmarket supermarket section. The 100-strong staff at the store have been told that Let’s Eat will officially close on 29 April, but that the company will attempt to relocate as many employees as possible across its other businesses.
A spokesman for Coles Myer commented that while some aspects of the venture will be picked up for use within the company’s supermarket outlets, the Let’s Eat concept was showing no signs of success as a whole.
