Franz-Josef Moellenberg, chairman of food industry trade union, NGG, has warned that reduced sales of sausages and processed meats caused by the BSE crisis could see 40,000 jobs being lost in Germany’s slaughterhouse and meat processing industry. Government emergency aid was almost entirely focused on helping farmers, he said.
