Fisheries controlled by (Greek) Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Portugal and Spain will affected. Italy and France closed their own fisheries in July and August respectively.
EU fishing Commissioner Joe Borg said: “Clearly there are problems of over fishing a stock already threatened with collapse…the Commission will do all it can to address these issues urgently.”
The fishery’s quota stands at 16,779.5 tonnes.
