Dewar-Durie, currently Seafish’s deputy chairman, will take up the three-year appointment on 1 May 2002. He does not hold any other Ministerial appointments and has not declared a political interest.

He succeeds Eric Davey, who retires at the end of April after seven years as chairman and four years as deputy chairman.

Dewar-Durie commented: “I am delighted to take over this key role at Seafish at an exciting time in the seafood industry’s development.

“Seafood has a growing ‘X’ factor with fish being one of the trendiest foods and sales at record levels. Seafish’s initiatives help to promote seafood, improve quality, test more sustainable methods of fishing and develop better ways of tracing the fish we eat from net to plate.
