German-based flavours and fragrances specialist Symrise has acquired Unilever’s non-branded UK food ingredients business for an undisclosed sum.

Located in Burton-on-Trent, the Unilever unit produces dry seasonings and wet pastes for the chilled food category, as well as for other traditional culinary and snack food sectors. The business had a turnover in the region of EUR5m (US$6.94m) in 2006.


Symrise said the unit operates in one of its strategic focus areas, while the deal also brought economies of scale and a complementary customer base, and added new competencies and final recipes to its savoury business.
