Swiss chocolate group Lindt & Spruengli has expressed an interest in acquiring Godiva, the Belgian premium chocolate brand owned by the US food group Campbell Soup Co.
However, while reportedly saying that Godiva “could be a perfect fit” for Lindt, a spokesperson for the Swiss company added that it was not in acquisition talks with Campbell.
“As far as Godiva is concerned we are looking at the situation,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying by Reuters. “We are generally interested in every perfect fit to Lindt & Spruengli.”
Campbell has said it is considering its options for Godiva, one of which could be a sale. Nestlé has been tipped as the likely front-runner to acquire the Belgian company if Campbell should decide to sell.
