Belgian discount retailer Colruyt has seen first-quarter sales rise almost 7% despite stiff competition in the country’s cut-price segment.
The company recorded sales of EUR1.3bn (US$1.8bn) during the three months to 30 June, up 6.7% on the year.
Retail sales drove the growth, Colruyt said, with revenue from its namesake stores up almost 6%.
As of the end of June, Colruyt operated 205 eponymous stores in Belgium, as well as 46 Okay and 4 Bio-Planet outlets.
